Thursday: Take notes on Context Clues and discuss ways to incorporate them into the Fictional Narratives. Also, improve the word choice used in the story. Homework: Read Chapter 14 of The Giver.

Friday: Self and peer edit your Fictional Narrative. No homework.




September 18-22

Monday: Take notes on Revising. Discuss transition words and phrases to help readers with the sequence of the story. Homework: Read Chapter 7 of The Giver.

Tuesday: Work on revising by learning the different types of sentences. Homework: Read Chapter 8 of The Giver.

Wednesday: Work on revising by correcting fragments and run-ons. Homework: Read Chapter 9 of The Giver.

Thursday: Take notes on Context Clues and discuss ways to incorporate them into the Fictional Narratives. Also, improve the word choice used in the story. Homework: Read Chapter 10 of The Giver.

Friday: Finish citing text evidence from “Rogue Wave”. Introduce the Performance Task: Write a Fictional Narrative, and complete a prewrite for it. No homework.



August 28 - September 1

Monday: Review Instructions on the Summer Narrative Essay. Pass out Collections textbooks and view the online components. Homework: Draft a 3-5 paragraph essay about your summer.

Tuesday: Introduce Quarter 1 standards. Cite text evidence and use context clues to find the meaning of new words while reading from Collections “Flight of Icarus”. Homework: finish drafting summer narrative essay.

Wednesday: Cite text evidence from “Flight of Icarus” and discuss the theme of the story. Homework: revise and edit essay with two different colored pens.

Thursday: Read and cite text evidence from “Arachne” in the Close Reader workbook. Homework: write a final, published copy of the Summer Narrative Essay.

Friday: Summer Narrative Essay DUE! Read and cite text evidence from “Arachne” in the Close Reader workbook. No homework.



August 21-25
