India Unit Vocabulary
Monsoons - a strong wind that blows one direction in winter and the opposite direction in summer.  

Aryans - a group of people that migrated to the subcontinent of India 

Sanskrit - written language of the Aryans once they settled in India

Raja - an Indian prince

Caste System - is a social group that someone is born into and cannot change.  

Varnas - the 4 classes of the social system that people were grouped into

Brahmins - the first varna, the priests at the top of the social pyramid

Kshatriyas - the second varna, warrios, rulers

Vaisyas - the third varna, common people, farmers and merchants 

Sudras - the fourth varna, unskilled laborers, servants

Untouchables - the people not a part of the Caste or Varna groups they do all of the dirty/unclean work they are uneducated 

Guru - teacher, expert in a topic 

Reincarnation - the idea of passing though many lives to reach the Brahman it is very important in Hinduism and it influences how Hindus live their daily lives and treat animals.

Dharma - is the divine law that requires people to perform the duties of their caste

Karma - the consequences of how a person lives 

Nirvana - it is not a place but a state of wisdom a person reaches if they give up all desires 

Theocracy - when the person in charge of the government is also their religious leader 

Stupas - Buddhist shrines that have the shape of a dome or mound. 

Erosion - 
the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents

Deposition -  is when those sediments are deposited, or dropped off, in a different location. These processes change the way the surface of the earth looks over time.
